Bior Restaurant & Bar

Hey lovelies!

Boat Quay is full of treasure, some of which are hidden and others are just gems in their own right. That said hidden amidst the rows of shops is a delicious Thai restaurant- Bior Restaurant & Bar (Bior).

A visit to Bior feels like an invitation into a Thai home. Minimalist interior design – chic and stylish exuding a warm welcome. On the second floor is a cozy bar where people sit and relax.

A cozy nook for those looking to escape the daily grind of life.

The food is authentic, deliciously tasty, portions are great size and reasonable prices to boot. Dishes are made from scratch in the kitchen only when you order so you can be assured it’s freshness and the quality.

From left: Thai Prawn Cake ($7.90), Green Milk Tea ($3) Crabmeat Roll ($11.90), Pork Collar ($9.90), Minced Pork Omelette ($9.90)

Love at first sip with the green milk tea – Pandan infused neither too sweet nor heavily laden with evaporated milk but instead very refreshing. Never drank such a good milk tea not even from the roadside of Bangkok!

Punchy tom yum soup ($11) packed with the right amount of spices

How to tell if it’s an authentic Thai restaurant? By trying the simplest dish – clear tom yum soup. I had the seafood clear tom yum soup – spicy enough but not an overkill of the senses, packing a right amount of spices and have a generous serving of ingredients.

Pork collar ($9.90) with their house special chilli dip which has a kick

Their pork collar is tender, juicy and melts in the mouth goes so well with their house special chilli dip which is freshly made each time.

Chef was so nice to accommodate my request for an extra serving of chilli dip – it’s damn shiok

The crabmeat roll is a seasonal special and not on the menu. The crabmeat used is Sri Lankan crabs and you can see they are not stingy, the roll is compactly filled with crabmeat! This dish is so yummy crispy on the outside, juicy and flavourful on the inside.

Thai Chendol

A meal is never complete without dessert don’t you agree? The difference between a regular chendol and a Thai chendol is that the latter comes with glutinous rice. The Thai chendol is rich but not too heavy or sweet pairs very well with the soft and sticky glutinous rice.

Service was impeccable too – the team was friendly, attentive, give good recommendations/suggestions and accommodating to requests.

I personally feel one of the joys of dining out is finding fantastic food and ambience when you least expect. If you missed the taste of Thai food I highly recommend you to try Bior Restaurant & Bar. I’ll definitely be going back again.

Do make a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Bedok Bak Chor Mee @ Boat Quay

Hey lovelies!

Bet you didn’t know that there is a Bedok Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodle) located in the heart of bustling Boat Quay.

And on the second floor is a quaint, cosy drinking hole for you to unwind after work or simply to catch up with friends.

Through this door on the right is the stairway to a secret hideout
Cozy corner

Besides minced meat noodles they also have Wu Xiang, bubble tea (if your not into alcoholic beverages) and last but definitely not the least they serve Joy Luck Teahouse egg tarts! How cool is this place?

The broth of the minced meat noodle is rich in taste – not only flavourful but delicious as well.

Soup was so aromatic I forgot to feed my camera before slurping
Wantons are yummy as they have Ti Po (dried flounder) inside which makes it so tasty you keep wanting more!
Generous serving of minced meat in broth
The perfect combi ~ Wu Xiang and beer

Food is yummilicious, ambiance is great and service is impeccable. What’s there not to like? Highly recommend you to check out Bedok Bak Chor Mee to find out for yourself. I don’t know about you but this place has become my favourite hangout! See you around.

Pretty & Scrumptious ~ LeGem Patisserie

Hey Lovelies!

Was craving for madeleines and chance upon LeGem Patisserie. Sometimes I think Instagram can read my mind (haha).

LeGem Patisserie freshly baked modern madeleines comes with an assortment of unique flavours.

Chocolate hazelnut ~ glazed with a layer of chocolate, sprinkled with a generous serving of nuts and filled with whole nuts too!

Nuts about you

Black Sesame ~ aromatic and had a deep nutty flavour.

Sesame everywhere

Fig with Cheese ~ savoury and sweet a perfect match.

Triple Chocolate ~ has an intense chocolate flavour but not too sweet.

Thick chocolate coat is simply divine

Kaya with coconut ~ uniquely Singaporean style topped with desiccated coconut.

Glistening golden brown

Matcha With yuzu ~ refreshing twist of zesty citrus yuzu and an earthy kick of matcha goes very well with a cuppa sencha green tea.

Perfect combi

Strawberry with ruby chocolate ~ a tension of fresh berry fruitiness and luscious smoothness like yoghurt.

Pretty in pink

Lemon ~ a decidedly tangy note but not too sour.

Sugar coat & lemon peels

Earl Grey ~ wonderful in smell and delicious in taste.

Evergreen classic

The dear little cakes are tenderly moist, soft and spongy and definitely does not have the acrid after taste of baking powder.

I can’t decide which is my favourite cause all are so yummy! Melts in your mouth…makes you going back for more and I sure did (this is my second purchase before I wrote this). I highly recommend you to try! LeGem Patisserie madeleines are not only scrumptious but also a feast to the eyes!

To me what makes LeGem Patisserie stands out is that she takes the effort to pen a note which adds a personal touch.

Handwritten cards are so rare these days

Thank you for reading, it’s time for tea!

The Gallery Bistro

Hey Lovelies!

Sharing with you a new quaint bistro my girlfriend and I visited which have just opened – The Gallery Bistro (part of the Saveur Group). Nestled inside the grand old dame of the former Supreme Court and City Hall.

Wine & Dine with a picturesque view of the Singapore skyline, whilst taking in the afterglow of the sunset lingering on the horizon and enjoy the cool evening breeze.

As an opening special each table reservation made by quoting “Amarone” entitles you to a bottle of Amarone della Valpolicella Wine at $55 which is a steal (normal price is $136) the red wine is smooth, easy to drink and doesn’t leave an after taste. The red wine goes well with everything – truffle fries, oysters and of course steak!

Fresh, succulent, plump and smooth oysters

Food was delicious – good quality and portions are substantial. However menu selection can be improved – with more bar bites options like chicken wings, beef cubes, spam fries etc.

Tender, tasty & cooked to perfection ~ medium rare

The ambience of the restaurant has a Parisian style vibe it would have been a scene right out of “Emily in Paris” if the fairy lights could be switched on.

The restaurant manager, Pauline and her crew deserve to be complimented! Everyone is treated like a VIP! Not only were they attentive, friendly, welcoming, patient and helpful in recommending options. They always serve with a smile (ok everyone is masked up but you can tell through their eyes and their bubbly voice when they serve they are smiling from behind the masks).

Pauline and her crew – surprised me with a cake and sang me a birthday song!

An unforgettable and memorable dining experience! We will definitely be coming back again!

P.S. From 16-27.Nov they have free half dozen oysters! Checkout their Facebook or Instagram for details!

Thank you for reading and see you there!

Le Petit Chef Sheraton – Bangkok

Hey Lovelies!

Last Christmas holidays was spent in my favorite city – Bangkok the land of smiles.

Having heard rave reviews we decided to have an early Christmas dinner celebration at Le Petit Chef Sheraton Bangkok. I have booked us the 6-course menu.

When we arrived we were seated at the lounge, refreshments and hor d’oeuvres were offered whilst we wait to be ushered into the dining room.

Chilled Towels are individually sealed to maintain hygiene
Hor d’oeuvres – Amuse Bouche: Goat Cheese Foie Gras mousse on duck breast with pickled kohlrabi

Dishes were prepared in fusion style with a French base recipe and an Asian twist (Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indian) in my opinion would have been better if they stick to just one Asian style. Having so many different flavours you lose identity.

Appetitzer – Hokkaido scallop carpaccio, marinated radish, ponzu sauce, finger lime & oxalis
ShenWendys_LPC_Soup
Soup – Bouillabaisse Tom Yum
Main – Boston Half Lobster Gratinated with mornay sauce
ShenWendys_LPC_2
Bon Appetite
ShenWendys_LPC_PreDessert
Pre dessert – Mango sorbet, coconut milk foam, peanuts and chocolate ginger sauce
ShenWendys_LPC_D3
Mushu the Red Dragon is going to prepare the dessert
ShenWendys_LPC_D4
Dessert – Rice Pudding Brûlée with saffron, cardamon

It was Natasha’s first fine dining experience, the cinematic and theatrical performance was spectacular, leaving her in awe. Seeing the animation come to live was engaging and fun.

Mother & daughter Pre-Christmas Dinner Celebration

Ben and her team provided an exceptional superb service we were treated like Kings and a Queens. We didn’t feel out of place at all Ben gave the narration in both Thai and English (her English was fluent and spoken with ease).

If you ask me was the price tag worth it? Well, not for the food – food was only so-so, don’t get me wrong the quality of the food is there but the way the dishes are prepared are not worth the price you are paying for. But the impeccable service we received from Ben and her team, the unique and unforgettable dining experience are all worth the price.

Home Bakery – Mar_velicious Patisseries

Hey Lovelies!

Today I want to share about my new found find – Mar_velicious Patisseries a home bakery founded by two best friends Jet and Amirah with whom I got acquainted by chance.

My first encounter was their brownies and its simply love at first bite! The texture was perfect- moist and yet not too soft, chocolate melts running on the sides but wasn’t overly sweet best paired with a scoop of rum & raisin ice cream making it simply divine.

shenwendys_marvelicious_Brownies

Their sea salt chocolate chip cookies are equally yummy – sweet and savory at the same time. Highly addictive I must say, can’t just stop at just one you will want more. Their peppermint chocolate chip cookies are refreshing – don’t worry the peppermint isn’t overpowering.

oh guess what the do Ondeh-Ondeh cake too!! I was so over the moon when I found out they make that. The smell of pandan is so fragrant, texture of the sponge is dense and moist, drizzles of gula melaka seals the deal.

What I really appreciate most about Mar_velicious Patisseries is having the option to customize the sweetness of the bakes to my preference. Don’t get me wrong I have a sweet tooth and desserts are important to me a meal is never complete without desserts. But perhaps with age I prefer low sugar bakes.

There are so many reasons to chose home bakeries over commercial ones – personalized, creative, the use of quality ingredients and most importantly its baked with passion and love.

Maanda Thai Cuisine

Hey lovelies!

During Alegra Singapore’s opening I had the opportunity to try out some really yummy Thai food which I wanna share with you ~ Maanda Thai Cuisine.

As the saying goes we feast with our eyes first! Not only does the food look good it tastes good too very flavourful and authentic. The way the food was plated and the set-up shows how they take pride in offering nothing but the best.

The shrimp dip is to die for – goes well with everything!

The prawn cake donuts have whole prawns stuffed in them unlike the usual floury ones. Chicken wings were finger-licking good – crispy on the outside and juicy inside.

Papaya salad was refreshing a good appetiser to start off with.

I have a sweet tooth so my favourite was the emerald ruby!

Isn’t it cute they put them in shot glasses – drizzle some coconut milk and bottoms up!

When planning your next party why not cater from Maanda Thai Cuisine? I know I will.

Bon appetite! Thank you for reading.

Steakville

Hi Everyone!

It’s Natasha here, Mummy let me write my own post on her web 🥰

Today I’m going to tell you about my favourite hangout – Steakville! A hidden gem a midst the print shops in Sunshine Plaza. I usually go there after my dance classes, the place is very cozy. It was love at first bite, their steak are always perfectly cooked – on point every time I visit. Drinks options are abundance, after trying out several ones my go to is Yuzu Fizz.

I tried my first medium-rare on their special Brazilian Tenderloin it was great but I still prefer my steak doneness to be medium.

My favourite go to cut on my usual visit is the Hunter’s Ribeye!!

Oh they even had Mummy’s favourite pan seared foie gras.

Now desserts I have a sweet tooth and every meal have to end with desserts. They make a fantastic Milo Cheesecake which I’m craving for right now and haven’t eaten it for the longest time ever. The crust is savoury and sweet, the Milo doesn’t overpower the taste of the cheese😋

Their cranberry macaron are not only pretty they are delicious and not overly sweet.

Can’t wait to go there again and fix my craving.

See you there!😎

Sunday Morning Date

Hi Lovelies!

Have a new routine on Sundays which is bringing my gal for private tuition which last about 2hours so what do we do? My man and I went cafe exploring of course!

Our first exploration led us to Atlas Coffeehouse situated along Bukit Timah Road.

The interior decor is simple yet classy and oozes a zen effect – cement polished finishings on one side and jaggered tiles on the other. Natural daylight spills in from the full height glass windows creating a warm and cozy ambience. Staff are friendly, jovial and the barista is really pretty too (sorry didn’t take a picture of her too shy to do it).

They have a decent selection on the menu and the serving are quite well proportioned.

Sundate

We are both bacon lovers so naturally we chose “BBQ Bacon Baked Beans on Toast” for him and “Buttermilk Waffles with Candied Bacon & Vanilla Ice Cream” for me.

BBQ Bacon Baked Beans on Toast

Buttermilk Waffles with Candied Bacon & Vanilla Ice Cream

The texture of the waffles reminds me of A&W~ Crispy on the outside moist and fluffy on the inside. The fusion combination of savoury and sweet played out well and had me licking my plate clean.

Absolute satisfaction

We both had cappuccinos and was pleasantly surprised that we had different coffee art isn’t that cool?

I would say this is a good find and I’m definitely coming back again to try out the other waffles combination.

Thank you for reading.

Atlas Coffeehouse is located on 6 Duke’s Road, opens Tue-Sun from 8am to 7pm.

P.S. If you want to get a table go early when we left at 9ish the place was packed to the brim.

Date Night with Mummy Dearest

Bonding With Mummy

‪Keeping up with the demands of being a wife, a mother and a daughter is not easy. I feel like everyone wants a piece of my time. The demands of work and my own family had made it near impossible to go out with Mummy on a one-on-one date.

Invited mum out for dinner at STREAT, a signature event which was part of the Singapore Food Festival. The main draw was of course Celebrity Chef Justin Quek (of Sky on 57 fame) Pop-up Restaurant.

I ordered a 3 course set menu paired with a glass of JQ Poupille 2009 100% Organic Merlot for both of us from Chef Justin’s Pop-up Restaurant.

3-Course Set Menu SGD 35 ~ Pacific Oysters, Australian Dorper Lamb Spare Ribs & Gula Java Crème Brulee

Mummy doesn’t usually drink wine but tonight she did and finished the glass all on her own. The lamb was delicious tender, flavourful and no game odour. Dessert was simply divine with the fusion mix. The price was a steal for a fine dining cuisine!

Halfway throught our meal I looked up and saw Mummy looking at me smiling nostalgically. “It was I who used to be the one asking you to sit and I ordered food for you when you were little”, she said. “Now its my turn to do it for you, all you have to do is relax and enjoy.”, I replied.

Mummy Dearest

During dinner we chatted about the recent activities/events in each other’s life and made plans to do this more often.

As we were leaving Mummy asked me to take a photo of her with the “One Fullerton” backdrop. She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an Angel’s. She said:: “I told my colleagues I was going out with my daughter for dinner here and they were impressed.”

Mummy Dearest Smiling Radiantly

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time:: “I Love You”, and to give our loved ones the time they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than our FAMILY (Father And Mother I Love You). Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till “some other time.”

Time and tide waits for no one.
